Fair Set To Bring Music, Food, Fun To Athens County

Go Ohio Valley is a free app produced by Adams Publishing Group of Ohio and presents an avenue to explore numerous categories and activities in the region. This week’s feature listing is the Athens County Fair, held in Athens.

The 163rd annual Athens County Fair is slated to kick off a week of games, rides and traditional fun on Friday.

The fair runs until Saturday, Aug. 9, giving visitors plenty of time to enjoy the featured entertainment and events at the Athens fairgrounds. Rides will first open on Monday at 1 p.m. For the rest of the week, rides are open from noon to 11 p.m.

Monday is Veterans Day, as local veterans will receive free admission to the fair. Also on Monday is the Kids Bike Parade at noon and the Tough Track event at the grandstand.

Jerry and Lisa Queen will perform at the Hillside Stage on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Motocross races will start at 7 p.m. at the grandstand.

Wednesday is Kids Day, as children ages 12 and under will be admitted free until 3:30 p.m. Moto enduro races at the grandstand start at 7 p.m.

Seniors get in free on Thursday, Aug. 7, with the kiddie tractor pull scheduled for 1 p.m. and two demolition derby events slated for 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the grandstand.

Friday night will feature the horse pull at 5 p.m. and the “Riverside Cloggers” at the Hillside Stage at 7 p.m. Trent Tomlinson will perform at the grandstand at 8 p.m.

The fair closes on Saturday, Aug. 9 with the truck and tractor pull at 6 p.m. and a barn dance that night at 9 p.m.

Admission is $5 from Aug. 1-3. Daily admission is $8 per person (over 2 years of age) for the remainder of the fair. Visitors can buy a membership pass for $27 or a season ticket pass for $25, both of which span the entirety of the fair (ride fees are extra).
