The Hocking College Art Gallery is featuring a solo artist photography exhibit featuring Athens resident Tim Creamer.

The show, which opens Oct. 31, features modern photography created with iPhone 4 and 5s apps, including Hipstamatic, iColorama and Snapseed.

An opening reception will also be held Oct. 31 from 6-9 p.m. during Nelsonville’s Final Friday event on the Public Square.

In his artist statement, Creamer said that inspiration came when he was introduced to a Facebook group, Hipstamatic Tintype Images, which features works created using a Tintype filter pack in any combination.

“Previously, I’ve been caught up with notion that I needed a ‘real’ camera to develop my vision. The iPhone has turned that dynamic for me upside down,” read the statement. “Using new apps and techniques, images are developed rapidly on the iPhone eliminating the extra step of downloading to a computer. That, with almost instant feedback from other artist through social media, provides me with the ability to evolve rapidly the images that I create.”

Creamer said that the Facebook group has provided helpful feedback and encouragement.

“Social media is a boon to my creative process as I no longer work in a creative vacuum,” he explained. “I find myself pushing the limits as other international artists in this group are now doing–we show, share and encourage each other. This body of work is a testament to this process.”

The exhibition runs through Nov. 24. The Hocking College Art Gallery is located at 30 Public Square in Nelsonville and is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 12-5 p.m.
