Athens County Couple Featured By Humans Of New York
< < Back toNew York City photographer Brandon Stanton spends his days looking for interesting subjects for his photoblog “Humans of New York.” This weekend, Athens couple Space and Smiles Welch appeared on his blog, which has more than 11 million followers on Facebook.
The couple have gained attention in recent years, being featured for their off-the-grid living that includes a school bus without running water or electricity on 20 acres in Athens County.
In 2011, they were featured on the Soul of Athens project in this multimedia piece The Refuge: Our Dreams Are Different, completed by then Ohio University journalism student Meg Roussos.
The project gained national attention, including the pictures being featured on CNN’s website.
