An Ohio University Police Department officer was injured while attempting to arrest an allegedly disorderly Athens man.

Camden R. Pierce, 20, of 12 N. McKinley Ave., was being arrested Monday for alleged disorderly conduct when he allegedly assaulted Officer John Stabler. The incident allegedly occurred at Pickering Hall on the OU campus, according to a police report.

Stabler was allegedly hit in the face and sustained a bloody nose, according to Lt. Timothy Ryan of OUPD.

“Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that Mr. Pierce also was suspected in assaulting several other people,” according to the police report.

The police report notes that drugs were involved, but when asked what the nature of the drug involvement was, Ryan declined to comment because the investigation is still ongoing. No weapons were reportedly involved, according to the report.

Pierce was charged with assault of a peace officer, a fourth-degree felony, and other charges are pending in the case.

On Feb. 24, Pierce was arraigned in Athens County Municipal Court, but entered no plea because the charge was a felony. A felony charge is not prosecuted in municipal court, but bound over to Athens County Common Pleas Court.

A preliminary hearing in municipal court has been tentatively scheduled for March 5, but will be vacated if the case is taken to common pleas court.
