The University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College Jazz and Rock Ensembles will host concerts next week, with the Jazz Ensemble performing at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, followed by the Rock Ensemble on Nov. 20.

Indie-pop singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson visited Athens last night as part of her "Lights Out" tour, entertaining an audience of nearly 1,000 at Ohio University's Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium.

Michaelson, perhaps best known for her 2012 album Human Again and singles "The Way I Am" and "Girls Chase Boys," is currently touring in support of her recent album, Lights Out.

The show was presented as part of Ohio University's Performing Arts Series.

Stuart's Opera House welcomes North Carolina country/roots group The Honeycutters this Friday at 8 p.m.

Mountain Xpress describes the band as "old school country in the truest sense, free of twang and 10 gallon hats but full of real emotion, family history, quick wit and strong liquor." 

Since the release of their first album (Irene, 2009), The Honeycutters have performed throughout the U.S., sharing the stage with such Americana giants as Guy Clark, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Donna The Buffalo and The Steep Canyon Rangers.

Ten-year-old YouTube sensation Emi Sunshine will perform an eclectic mix of Americana, blues and gospel at ARTS/West on Wednesday, Nov. 19.

The singer-songwriter’s Appalachian ballads, hymns and self-penned originals have drawn inspiration from artists such as Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris.

Hailing from Madisonville, Tennessee, Sunshine regularly performs a mix of her own songs while also covering some of her favorite singers. More than two million people have viewed her YouTube videos.

Tickets for the 2015 concert season at Jorma and Vanessa Kaukonen’s Fur Peace Station are now on sale.

The series, which offers a variety of music styles performed by dynamic musicians, will feature rare performances and concert pairings.

Scheduled performers include Oliver Mtukudzi, David Lindley, GE Smith, Corey Harris and many others.

One Athens retailer has a new pitch — that of the violin. The Fiddle and Bow, located at 77-1/2 E. State Street, will host its grand opening on Dec. 5.

However, violins aren’t the only merchandise the shop has for sale. It also offers eclectic hats--such as fedoras and cabbie hats--as well as bowties and other miscellaneous items.

The legendary Taj Mahal, one of the most prominent and influential blues and roots artists of the late 20th century, returns to Stuart's Opera House on Monday, Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m.

Although the composer, Grammy winner, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist began his career more than four decades ago with American blues, he has broadened his artistic scope over the years to include music representing virtually every corner of the world – West Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe and the Hawaiian islands.

Ten-year-old Adyn Bucher is planning on rocking out this Saturday at Jackie O's. And you're invited to join her.

Adyn and her family are hosting the first-ever benefit for Adyn's Dream, a non-profit charity dedicated to providing assistance to families that have members who are living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Saturday's concert features Athens surf-rock band The D-Rays and Oldboy, a folk-rock quintet from Cleveland.
