This Thursday will be a homecoming of sorts for The Burning River Ramblers, a Cleveland-based rock/funk group with Ohio University roots.

The band will host a release party for its sophomore album, To Color a Fool, at The Union with two local up-and-coming groups, The Whole Hearted Half Wits and Fathers of the Revolution.

Area country music fans will be in for a Halloween treat when Kacey Musgraves' "Same Trailer, Different Tour" rolls into Athens on Oct. 31. The singer-songwriter, who is currently up for six CMA Awards, will perform at OU's Memorial Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.

Veteran indie rock band Yo La Tengo performed for an enthusiastic Stuart's Opera House audience on Sept. 17.

The band is currently touring in support of its 13th full-length album, Fade.

In a few days, Gen X'ers will be pouring in to Athens for OU Parents Weekend, and Ohio Valley Summer Theater has just the ticket for those looking to relive the era of Madonna, moonwalking and Martha Quinn. "Ohio Valley Live: Parents Rock!," a sketch comedy/live music show, will be presented at ARTS/West on Friday, Sept. 20 and Saturday, Sept. 21 with performances at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

After rapturously received performances at Stuart's Opera House in 2009 and the Nelsonville Music Festival in 2011, indie rock legends Yo La Tengo will return to Stuart's on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 8 p.m.

Since 1986, Yo La Tengo have been one of indie rock's most critically acclaimed and prolific acts, recording more than 30 albums, EPs and soundtracks. The band is currently touring in support of its latest album, Fade.

After watching a reality TV show where average citizens helped feed homeless individuals, a local man grew inspired to do something for those in need in his own community.

Jeremy Gibson, guitar player and songwriter for the band Appalachian Hillside Revolution, got together a group of friends and fellow musicians to organize a two-day concert, called One Show For One Soul, on Sept. 27 and 28.

This year’s proceeds will go to the family of Shirley Cullison, of Glouster, who recently passed away at age 70 after a bout with cancer.

Country and rock fans will find common ground when the OU Performing Arts Series welcomes platinum-selling artist Gretchen Wilson on Nov. 14. Wilson, who is primarily known as a country singer, is currently touring in support of her Under the Covers album, which features versions of rock songs by Van Morrison, Led Zeppelin and Jackson Browne, among others.

Ohio University’s School of Media Arts and Studies and School of Music will host Ira Kaplan, indie musician and frontman of Yo La Tengo, on Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 2-3 p.m. at Glidden Music Hall.

Kaplan will visit Ohio University for an onstage interview about the story and 30-year success of Yo La Tengo.
