Michael du Cille, a renowned prize-winning photographer for the Washington Post, died last week, at age 58, while he was covering Ebola in Africa for the third time.  du Cille covered the world and used his pictures to tell gripping stories of the human condition.

As a result he won three Pulitzer prizes in his career and was one of the most respected photojournalists in the world.

Crisis management and working with the media is a far more difficult process today that it has been in the recent past.

The 24-hour news cycle plus the advent of instantaneous commenting through social media means that corporate executives, CEO’s, and political figures need to be well trained in media techniques to try to “stay ahead of a story.”  Otherwise, great damage can be done to their company or cause in an extremely short amount of time.

Judge Gayle Williams-Byers of the South Euclid Municipal Court in Cuyahoga County acknowledges that there is a high degree of distrust by citizens of the legal system and of grand juries.

She feels that people don’t understand the complexities of the legal process and that judges, lawyers, prosecutors and police do not do a very good job of explaining complex legal processes.

In short, people don’t trust what they don’t understand and there is a rising level of public outrage about the judicial system from police interaction with citizens to prosecutors and courts.
