Athens Fabulous Fourth Activities Announced

Independence Day is just around the corner. Here’s the rundown of the 2015 Athens Fabulous Fourth activities:

FRIDAY, JULY 3

12-7 p.m. Athens City Pool is open. Free admission July 3-4; donations for Friends of the Shelter Dogs Project will be welcome.

4:30 p.m. Fabulous 4th Senior Queen (55 and older) Judging, inside Athens Community Center. $1 per vote; proceeds benefit the Friends of the Shelter Dogs Project.

5:30–10 p.m. Cruise-In, Athens Community Center, East State Street

6 p.m. Crowning, Fabulous Fourth Senior Queen

6:30-8 p.m. Kids’ games, including a jumping castle (previously held at the Athens Community Center); Friends of the Shelter Dogs will hold a meet and greet with dogs available for adoption.

7 p.m. Flag raising at Veteran’s Memorial Park (behind Athens City Pool) and veteran’s memorial

9–11 p.m. Remote by WATH/WXTQ, East State Street mall parking lot, music during fireworks

10 p.m. Fireworks, East State Street, Athens

SATURDAY, JULY 4

8:30 a.m. Fabulous Fourth Parade lineup, South College Street near Schoonover Center (old Baker Center)

9:30 a.m. Fabulous Fourth Parade. All entries welcome, including cars, floats, marching bands, bicycles, horses, etc. The parade route (two miles) runs along East Washington Street, Court Street, East Carpenter Street, East State Street, Morris Avenue, May Avenue and Lincoln Avenue. The parade will come to a halt at the Athens Public Library.

12–7 p.m. Athens City Pool is open all day. Admission is free but donations for the Friends of the Shelter Dogs Project will be welcomed.

10 p.m. Thunder in the Valley Fireworks Show, Hocking College, Nelsonville. Nelsonville’s historic Public Square is an excellent place to watch the light show unfold.
