HARLAN, Ky. (AP) – AT&T has announced that a county in Kentucky will get fixed wireless internet to extend connectivity to rural areas.

WYMT-TV reports AT&T Kentucky President Hood Harris announced the placement of two cell tower sites at a recent Harlan County Economic Development Authority meeting. The move will make the county the first area in eastern Kentucky to experience the service.

Hood says the service is going to extend internet connectivity to people in rural areas who have been unserved or underserved. The connection will have a minimum of 10 megabits per second.

AT&T has already launched the service in western Kentucky as well as eight other states. The company is set to finish the project in Kentucky in 2020.
