A band that has gained considerable popularity since its last performance in Nelsonville will be headlining next year’s Nelsonville Music Festival in May.

On Friday Nov. 8, Stuart’s Opera House announced that The Avett Brothers will be the headliner on Saturday night of the four-day music festival.

“The Avett Brothers are no strangers to the Nelsonville Music Festival, but their career has exploded since they last graced our stage,” stated a news release from Stuart’s. “The Avetts headlined the first weekend-long festival in NMF history in 2008. Even longer ago they played several shows at Stuart’s Opera House in Nelsonville.”

Now the Avetts are hot off the release of their third major label album, The Magpie & The Dandelion.

The San Francisco Chronicle has described the band as having the “heavy sadness of Townes Van Zandt, the light pop concision of Buddy Holly, the tuneful jangle of the Beatles, the raw energy of the Ramones.”

Stuart’s Opera House will present the 10th annual Nelsonville Music Festival May 29-June 1 at Robbins Crossing on the Hocking College campus.

The nonprofit will announce more acts for the festival leading up to the event. The festival features more than 40 musical acts on multiple stages, plus camping, children’s activities, local artisan vendors, food, a beer garden and more.

Weekend passes for all four days are on sale now for $90 and the price will raise from there until the gate price the weekend of the festival.

Camping passes and VIP weekend passes to the festival are also on sale now. Tickets and information can be found at www.nelsonvillefest.org.
