WORTHINGTON, Ohio (WOUB) — The undefeated Rockets of Berne Union traveled to Worthington to face off against the 5-1 Warriors of Worthington Christian.

The Rockets started off hot — QB Nate Nemeth set the Rockets up in the red zone after a 28-yard rush. On that same drive, Nemeth would punch the ball in with a one-yard rushing touchdown.

Berne Union’s defense was very opportunistic against the Warrior offense. On Worthington Christian’s first possession, Rocket linebacker Garrett Carpenter gets a sack on a long 3rd down, and on the next drive, Ian Staten would recover a loose fumble.

Momentum would shift towards the Warriors after a 4th and 1 stop from linebacker Tyler White. Worthington Christian QB Hobie Raikes would find WR Correll Amsbaugh in the end zone to tie the game at 7.

Sloppy play from Berne Union would continue as they would fumble once again. But the Berne Union defense would continue to hold up their end as they forced a punt on the ensuing possession.

This would give the Rocket offense an opportunity before halftime, and they would strike. After another long drive, QB Nate Nemeth would find the end zone using his feet with another 1-yard rushing touchdown. Rockets head into the locker room with a 14-7 lead.

In the first half, Berne Union played very careless. They had a lot of penalties and turned the ball over too much which made the scoreboard a lot closer than the game was. In the second half, things would change for the Sugar Grove natives.

Fresh out of the halftime break, the Rockets special teams would score as punt returner Sammy Amnah would take it 70 yards to the house.

The defense would force another turnover with an interception from Brae Friesner. Friesner wouldn’t be done as he takes a receiver screen from 69 yards out to the end zone. After a missed PAT, the score would be 27-7 all Rockets.

The party wouldn’t stop for Berne Union as Connor Godenschwager would get an interception. But turnovers continued to be an issue for the Rockets though, as they would fumble on the first play.

The Warriors wouldn’t go away. A slant pass to WR Adam Dunson would be completed for a touchdown, giving Worthington Christian a spark of hope, 27-14.

On the ensuing onside kick, the Warriors would recover. For the first time that night, the juices were flowing for the Warrior offense and the Worthington Christian crowd. They would drive all the way to the end zone but would ultimately turn the ball over on 4th and goal.

Berne Union would put this game away with touchdowns from Ian Staten and Brae Friesner. The Rockets would take a 40-14 win in Worthington.

Friday was a tough night for the Warriors, but they can’t stop now. Next week will be a match-up against the Bishops of Bishop Rosecrans.

Berne Union moves to 7-0 and continues to perform in dominant fashion. They will take on Grove City Christian in what will be the Rockets’ last home game of the season.
