Emergency Services In Athens Getting New Equipment
< < Back toEmergency services in Athens County are getting several upgrades. County Commissioners voted today to replace ambulances in Nelsonville and Albany.
Horton Emergency Vehicles will replace the trucks for $515,748 per vehicle, but payment is not due until the stations receive their respective ambulances in July.
They county replaces two ambulances a year, last year replacing Glouster and Coolville. This year's replacements took a slight upturn from the $147 thousand cost last year.
Athens County EMS Chief Rick Callebs explains that frequently replacing the vehicles saves the county money by avoiding significant engine problems. "Because it's an emergency vehicle we've got to keep them response ready at all times," Callebs says.
Commissioners also voted to move forward with the Rome Township Fire Facility Improvements plan. Commissioners agreed on Claypool Electric Incorporated as the contractor for the project. The improvements plan will cost $35 thousand.
