Manchester Local Schools in Adams County will have a new superintendent by the end of July.

The school board voted Monday to hire Craig Hockenberry to replace outgoing superintendent Robert Ralstin.

Hockenberry has spent the past 13 years as principal at Oyler School in the Cincinnati Public School system.

Hockenberry says he’s feels the district is a perfect fit for him at this point in his career.

“I didn’t have central office experience,” he said. “I’ve always been committed to Oyler so a natural fit would be a smaller district in the state of Ohio to take my first step [in the role of superintendent]. Stylistically, I felt I matched pretty well with the needs of the kids and families of Manchester based on the population I dealt with here in Cincinnati and the work we’ve done here at Oyler building a community learning center.”

Hockenberry oversaw the expansion of Oyler from a kindergarten to 6th grade school to a preschool to 12th grade community learning center that offers numerous community services such as healthcare, dental, vision and counseling services.

In an email statement Rick Foster, president of the Manchester School Board said, “We're very happy to have Craig join the MLSD team. His accomplishments while at Oyler and his community relations were a couple of the key factors that made him the successful candidate. Craig has tremendous enthusiasm for creating an exciting learning environment for the children. We look forward for that enthusiasm to spread throughout the MLSD community.”

Hockenberry will start on July 29th.
