With college basketball’s late signing period nearing an end, Ohio’s Mid-American Conference foes have made some strong additions to their 2014 recruiting classes.

Elliott Alexander of the Plain Dealer broke down the MAC’s recruiting haul for the class of 2014 Tuesday. The MAC’s class of 2014 has a total of 50 players with Buffalo, Ball State and Miami (OH) bringing in the most new faces with six recruits each.  Kent State, who is looking to bounce back from a 16-16 season in 2013-14, brought in the second most recruits with five.

Some of the notable names include Miami’s Zach McCormick, Kent State’s Raasean Davis, and Akron’s Noah Robotham. McCormick, a point guard hailing from Cincinnati, received some heavy attention from several MAC schools, as the three-star recruit held offers from Kent State, Toledo and Ohio in addition to Miami.

Raasean Davis’s signing with Kent State serves as an indicator of the Golden Flashes’ direction heading into next season. Kent State hopes that the 6-foot-7 235-pound Georgia native can be a factor in its front court, as the Flashes look to stray away from the perimeter oriented style they play with this past season.

Akron’s largest weakness last season was the team’s lack of a point guard. Due to Alex Abreu’s legal troubles, the Zips were forced to play Quincy Diggs, a natural shooting guard, at point guard at times. Akron made it a priority to fill Abreu’s void in the class of 2014, which it seemingly did with addition of Robotham and Antino Richardson.  Robotham, a Las Vegas native, was Nevada’s Player of the Year for the 2013-14 season.

The MAC also hauled in a number of junior college recruits. MAC teams brought in a total of 14 JUCO recruits with Bowling, Kent State and Miami leading the way with three each. Historically, Kent State was the primary junior college recruiter in the MAC, but the 2014 class saw six schools snag players from the junior college ranks.
