The Portsmouth Trojans faced against their rivals, the Portsmouth West Senators, in this week two matchup. Portsmouth came out on top with a 21-18 victory over Portsmouth West.

The Trojans opened the scoring in the first quarter when Johnie Charles found the end zone on the ground. After a false start on the first extra point attempt, the offense was sent back onto the field and made the two-point conversion to put the Trojans up 8-0.

From there, the first quarter belonged to the Senators who scored the next 15 points. Zach Frye caught a swing route out of the backfield and took it to the house from 54 yards. The Senators then added a two-point conversion of their own to tie the score, 8-8. Later in the quarter, West added another touchdown on a run from Justin Crace, but this time elected to take the extra point, making the score 15-7 Portsmouth West. Crace ended the night with 92 yards on 18 carries.

From that point, the Trojan defense kicked it up a notch, holding West to only a late second quarter field goal. Before West hit the field goal, Brandon Wedebrook connected with Darion Robinson for the touchdown. After a failed two-point conversion, the Trojans trailed 15-14. The Senators late field goal made it 18-14.

On the Trojans opening drive of the second half, Robinson found the end zone again, this time on the ground. Robinson finished the night with 105 total yards and 2 touchdowns. The Trojans took the lead, 21-18, and never looked back. The Trojans line backers, Levi Hall and Bryan Sexton combined for 26 tackles, holding West’s Zach Frye to 9 yards rushing on the night.

Next week, the Trojans will travel to Wheelersburg hoping to extend their winning streak to two.
