Ohio field hockey suffered its fifth loss of the season at the hands of Rutgers on Sunday.

The ‘Cats (5-5) fell 2-1 to the Scarlet Knights (6-5) in a neutral-site game, snapping their two-game winning streak.
Ohio edged Rutgers in shots 10 to six, and penalty corners six to three. Ohio head coach Neil Macmillan felt his team had several opportunities to win, but came up just short.
“We outplayed them for the vast majority of the game,” Macmillan said. “But when it came to actually finishing and combining in our attacking end to make the most of the opportunities we had, we fell just short.”
Rutgers struck first in the 17th minute as junior Rachel Yaney recorded her sixth goal of the season. Yaney was assisted by freshman Linde Van Schaik.
The Knights managed a score again in the 61st minute. Sophomore Jade Dixon netted her second goal of the year to extend the lead to 2-0.
In the 69th minute, Adele Sammons found the back of the cage with help from Hannah Kingsbury for her fourth goal of the season.
Rutgers’ goalkeeper Shevaun Hayeshad three saves on the afternoon while Lina Trucco recorded only one.
Despite the loss, Macmillan was pleased with his team’s defensive efforts.
“We held a team that has one of the highest outputs in the country in terms of scoring to only two goals,” he said. “We had great opportunities around the the edge of the D, but we just didn’t do a good job of finishing what we needed to.
The Bobcats will finish out their road stretch at conference foe Missouri State on Friday before returning home to play Michigan State on Sunday.
