As week 5 approaches, the usual suspects sit atop the MVL, but a few surprises are in the mix in the middle of the standings.

Sheridan: No surprise here. The Generals are coming off a decisive 50-0 victory over Crooksville, but the Cambridge Bobcats will come into Thornville this week with revenge on their minds.

Tri-Valley: The Scotties lost a heartbreaker to Dover, 14-10, but will look to get back on the winning track this week against Crooksville.

New Lexington: Maysville upset New Lex on the road last week, but Bill Nut’s squad still has an impressive 3-1 record. The Panthers won only two games all of last season.

Maysville: The Panthers are on a roll, having won back-to-back games after dropping their first two. Coach Parks’ team has a very favorable matchup at home this week versus West Muskingum.

Philo: The Electrics followed up an incredible, come-from-behind win against Crooksville by laying an egg against a surprise New Lex squad, but rebounded last week with a win over Morgan.

Crooksville: Coach Dave Rupe’s Ceramics were embarrassed by Sheridan last Friday. Now the smallest school in the MVL will head to Dresden to face the largest school in the MVL in Tri-Valley.

Morgan: The Raiders will head to The Rock to face a New Lex team that was beat decisively last week. An upset could be on the horizon.

John Glenn: Losing quarterback Jake Heagen to graduation has doomed the Little Muskies so far this season. The boys from New Concord have only scored 53 points.

West Muskingum: The Tornadoes haven’t won a game since 2009 and have given up 199 points through four games. On the bright side, West M has already gotten Sheridan and Tri-Valley out of the way.

1. Sheridan (4-0, 3-0)

2. Tri-Valley (3-1, 2-0)
