TVC-Ohio Boys Standings

1 – Vinton County Vikings | 5-0 (Conf. 3-0)

Vinton County has been dominant to open the 2023-2024 season. Winning all five of its games by double digits and by an average of 23.8 PPG. The Vikings were road warriors last week, defeating River Valley and Athens by 33 and 34 points, respectfully. This team led by nine seniors has shown its experience early and it has benefited them so far. 

Vinton County will return home Tuesday night to face Alexander in their first matchup in the post-D’Augustino era, while the Vikings will face possibly their biggest test yet on Friday night at Nelsonville-York. It’ll be interesting to see how Vinton County will handle its first road test against an above .500 team this season. — Grant Kiefer

T-2 – Nelsonville-York Buckeyes | 4-2 (Conf. 1-1)

The Buckeyes opened last week off against Eastern on Tuesday with a victory. Friday the boys fell in a close one to Meigs, giving them their first loss in conference play. They then hosted Trimble at home on Saturday and were victorious. 

Nelsonville-York will play two conference games against Alexander and Vinton County this week, and then travel to Miller on Saturday to face the Falcons. — Donovan Varney

T-2 – Meigs Marauders | 3-2 (Conf. 1-1)

The Meigs Boys played and won two conference games last week, opening play with Athens at home. In a slow but steady performance, the Marauders beat the Bulldogs in an offensive heavy battle 52-42. On Friday, the boys defeated Nelsonville-York on the road. The Marauders scored a similar 52 points as opposed to 49 from the Buckeyes.  

This week, Meigs looks to keep up its win streak, and will host an conference game with Wellston on Tuesday. On Friday, they will stay at home to face the Crooksville Ceramics. — Lucy Schaefer

T-2 – River Valley Raiders | 2-4 (Conf. 1-1)

The River Valley Boys bounced back and earned their first conference win of the season Saturday against Alexander. The win also ended a three-game losing streak that included two non-conference opponents in Symmes Valley and Point Pleasant and TVC-Ohio foe Vinton County. 

 The Raiders only other win in the young season was a three-point victory at home against Eastern. River Valley will play host Nelsonville-York and travel to Wellston for this week’s set of games. — Andrew Bowlby

T-2 – Athens Bulldogs | 1-4 (Conf. 1-1)

The Athens Bulldogs fell to the Meigs Marauders on Monday in a 52-42 loss. At the end of the week, the Bulldogs picked up another loss at home against the Vinton County. Saturday they traveled to Logan and failed to pick up a win in that contest. 

Next week, Athens will host the Jackson Ironmen on Monday. After the holiday break they’re set to face off with Logan Elm on Dec. 27. — Zachary Knight

Wellston Golden Rockets logoT-2 – Wellston Golden Rockets | 1-4 (Conf. 1-1)

It’s been a slow start for the Wellston Boys this season as they have only been able to find one win in their first five games played. The lone win came, in overtime, Tuesday against Alexander 67-59. 

The Golden Rockets have two losses to Southern and Athens, both by just four points. The other two came to non-conference opponents. Coming up for Wellston is a pair of TVC-Ohio games against Meigs and River Valley. — Andrew Bowlby

7 – Alexander Spartans | 0-6 (Conf. 0-3)

The Alexander boys have had to completely retool their game plan this season. The Spartans finished 15-8 last year and were led by the TVC all-time leading scorer, Kyler D’Augustino. So far without him this year, the Spartans have started their season 0-6. Among these losses, three came last week against Wellston, River Valley and Southeastern.  

On the bright side, Alexander has an opportunity to grab their first win before the holidays against the 5-0 Vinton County Vikings. — Maddie Kiefer

 

TVC-Ohio Girls Standings

T-1 – Athens Bulldogs | 4-2 (Conf. 2-0)

Last Monday, the Athens Lady Bulldogs pulled of a conference win against the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes with a dominant 56-37 performance to continue their run through the TVC-Ohio. The team worked well together under head coach Phil Koska, with a helpful 15 points from star player Asa Holcombe. On Saturday, they traveled to Logan and picked up another win to bolster their record. 

They’re set to play at home in a conference matchup against the Meigs Marauders on Monday, and travel for their next two games against Alexander on Thursday and Circleville on Saturday. — Zachary Knight

T-1- Alexander Spartans | 3-3 (Conf. 2-0)

The Alexander Spartans have exceeded all expectations so far this season. Last year Alexander went 1-21 and were at the bottom of the TVC-Ohio. So far, the Spartans have gone 3-3, including wins against Wellston and Vinton County this week. Along with an earlier win to Southern, Alexander has tripled their win total from last year already. 

The Spartans will look to climb their way up the conference with games against Nelsonville-York and Athens this week. — Maddie Kiefer

    T-3 – River Valley Raiders| 4-2 (Conf. 2-1)

The Lady Raiders early season has been built on two-game streaks. After beating their first two non-conference opponents Gallia Academy and Hillsboro, the Raiders lost back-to-back against South Gallia and Athens. 

 This past week, River Valley won two TVC-Ohio matchups at home vs Meigs 77-42 and Wellston 64-51. Next up, the Lady Raiders have a road clash with Vinton County on Tuesday before returning home Thursday against Nelsonville-York. — Andrew Bowlby

T-3 – Nelsonville-York Buckeyes | 4-3 (Conf. 2-1)

The Lady Buckeyes had three games last week, two of these games against conference opponents Athens and Meigs. After falling to Athens on Monday, Nelsonville-York traveled to Meigs where they would redeem themselves with a win. The girls capped their week off with a dominant victory against Trimble on Saturday. 

This week, the Lady Buckeyes will have two conference games. They’ll host Alexander on Monday, and head over to River Valley to face the Raiders on Thursday. — Donovan Varney

Wellston Golden Rockets logo5- Wellston Golden Rockets | 4-3 (Conf. 1-2)

The Lady Golden Rockets only scored 23 points in their season-opener vs Huntington. They then went on to win four consecutive games, scoring at least 53 points in each.  

The winning streak was snapped against Alexander last Monday when the Spartans beat Wellston 63-34. The Golden Rockets also lost on Thursday in Bidwell against River Valley. 

Wellston will play Zane Trace (1-7) Monday and try to get back in the win column. — Andrew Bowlby

6 – Vinton County Vikings | 2-5 (Conf. 0-2)

Vinton County got a much-needed win last week at Zane Trace, ending a four-game losing streak. However, the Vikings added a fifth loss to their loss column after losing a hard-fought game at Alexander, who’s already exceeded its win total from the 2022-2023 season. 

Vinton County will face two big tests this week that will teach us a lot about this young team, as they’ll host River Valley Monday night and travel to Wellston Thursday night, two teams that are both above .500 early on. — Grant Kiefer

7 – Meigs Marauders | 1-4 (Conf. 0-3)

The Lady Marauders began last week hoping to avenge themselves after tough losses at Belpre and against Wellson. They traveled to River Valley on Monday where they fell to the Raiders 77-42. On Thursday, they stayed at home to host the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes, where they lost in a 66-49 battle. 

The ladies look to redeem themselves next week, with only one game at Athens on Monday. — Lucy Schaefer
