If you were looking for place to go with your sweetheart this Valentine’s Day, Athens had plenty of options to choose from.

Casa Nueva, a Mexican-inspired restaurant on West State Street, was one place to consider when looking for a place to eat with your date. According to Grace Corbin, a marketing coordinator for Casa, the cook scheduled for that night planned on making something “super tasty” in honor of Valentine’s Day.

The restaurant also held a trivia night that evening at 9 p.m. for anyone who was looking to show off their infinite wisdom to their date.

The Athena theatre on Court street took part in some Valentine’s Day festivities by screening a film that didn’t fit the typical romantic movie stereotype. The Athena’s Kenyetta Whitfield said, “The Love Witch is this ‘60s inspired sort of horror film about a witch who is trying to find love, and she uses magic to make men fall in love with her but they end up dying.”

If you were looking for something different from the typical “dinner and a movie” date, Athens had you covered there too.

Athens is home to Rollerbowl lanes, a 16-lane center on Palmer street. Valentine’s Day landed on a Tuesday this year, which is a special day at the bowling alley. Tyler Lutz, a Rollerbowl employee, said the special “Two for Tuesday” would leave you with some spare change. “It’s from five to 11, it’s $2 a game, and then you get $2 shoes. Hotdogs are two for $2 and drinks as well,” explained Lutz.

If you were looking to “chill”, you could’ve considered going to Ohio University’s very own Bird Arena.

The ice rink was having a recreational skate that day from 8:30-10 p.m. Admission into the arena was free for students with a valid OU I.D., all you had to pay was $3.50 for skate rental.

Whether you decided to watch a movie, knock down some pins, or slide on some ice, you couldn’t deny that Athens had lots of options for you and your valentine to choose from. It was easy finding a place to go, the hard part was picking which place to go.
