William Inman II will have a new attorney in his second attempt at appealing the conviction of kidnapping and killing his wife, Summer Inman.

Inman’s attorney from his first appeal, which was denied by the Fourth District Court of Appeals on July 23, does not want to propose another case. Inman will now be assigned a new court-appointed attorney.

The court denied Inman’s request for a new trial and upheld the jury's decision in June 2012 that found he was guilty of aggravated murder, murder, kidnapping, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse.

Inman wanted a new trial or a mistrial declared because of the “surprise testimony” of John Anthony Matheny. Matheny’s prior conviction of gross sexual imposition was not disclosed to the court prior to his testimony.

At the start of the proceedings, Matheny said he could not identify Inman when he saw him in the car the family used the night of the murder. He said he saw Inman’s picture in media reports as the case went on and was able to identify him.

Judge Marie Hoover said the argument didn't have enough of an impact on the case to warrant the jury's decision being overturned, and denied Inman’s appeal.

Inman is currently serving a sentence of life without parole at Ross Correctional Institute in Chillicothe.

He committed the acts with his parents, William and Sandra Inman. William Inman was convicted of the same charges and Sandra Inman pleaded guilty to similar charges.

William Inman is serving the same sentence as his son at Madison Correctional Institution in London. Sandra is serving 15 years to life in prison at Dayton Correctional Institution.

Inman II is the only one of the three who has appealed his conviction.
