Every ten minutes another candidate is added to the national organ transplant waiting list. On average, 18 people die each day because a needed organ was unavailable. In 2005, 258 Ohioans donated organs giving 806 individuals a second chance at life.
A single donor potentially can save the lives of eight people and enhance the lives of up to 50 more by making their heart, two lungs, two kidneys, liver, pancreas, small bowel, corneas, bone, fascia, skin, veins, and heart valves available after their death.
