Organ Donation: Part Two



Summary:

This is the second of a three-part series on organ donation. Our guests are Morgan Mathews, the recipient of a donated liver, and Cynthia Tindongan, who donated her kidney in 2007. Join Health Vision to hear their amazing and uplifting personal stories.

Interesting Facts from the Show:

In 2005, 258 Ohioans donated organs giving 806 individuals a second chance at life.

A single donor potentially can save the lives of eight people and enhance the lives of up to 50 more by making their heart, two lungs, two kidneys, liver, pancreas, small bowel, corneas, bone, fascia, skin, veins, and heart valves available after their death.

Donation Myths
- Not being able to have an open casket funeral
- Donation is against my religion
- My medical care will be compromised if the institution knows I am a donor
- Organs only go to rich or famous people
- The expense will be too much for my family
- I am too old
- No one would want my organs

Approximately 18 people die each day waiting for an organ.
